Our Story
A journey of passion, tradition, and dedication to the finest Dutch honey that spans over three decades.
From One Beekeeper’s Dream to a Movement for Black Bees
I’m Majd, known locally as The Beekeeper from Gouda. When I first came to the Netherlands two years ago, the first thing I noticed was not the canals or the cheese , but the flowers. And what surprised me most was their silence. I couldn’t find a single bee.
Research from Wageningen University confirmed what I was seeing: nearly 22% of Dutch bees die every year. The native black bee (Apis mellifera mellifera) ,once common in the Netherlands , is now under threat of extinction.
That’s why I started Holland Bijen: to bring back the black bee, strengthen biodiversity, and create a model where bees feed themselves, farms, and the future.
Quote : “ Together, we can bring back more than 3 million native black bees to their natural environment.”
